I’m Jarno – a psychologist, researcher, supervisor and an overall curious person.

Below you’ll find a short bio. Whether you’re in need of a psychologist, a supervisor, a researcher or just someone to throw interesting new ideas around with, get in touch.

Expertize

Clinical psychologist

As a clinical psychologist may aim is to diminish the suffering caused by mental distress. In addition to the treatment of most common mental health disorders, I have a special interest in helping people who have undergone single or complex traumatic experiences, and those suffering from personality disorders and/or self-harm.

My framework is integrative, with an emphasis on mentalization-based treatment. I have additional training for trauma treatment in EMDR and Cognitive Therapy fo PTSD.

Researcher

As a researcher my main interest is the human mind and the problem of consciousness. How does the brain – this gelatinous lump of cells and tissue – produce subjective experience? How do we supersede our private experiences and can understand the experiences and feelings of others? What actually happens when things go wrong?

My long term goal is to better understand such questions with the use of various tools; theory, neuroscientific methods and phenomenological reports. This has lead me already to study such diverse topics as dreaming, the perception of time, saccadic suppression, hypnosis, neuroethics and the global responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Supervisor

Supervision is a twofold task. First, it is a means of reparation by providing alternate viewpoints and a space to reflect on experiences. Second, it is an essential aid in professional and personal development toward a meaningful and effective path.

As a supervisor I specialise in communities and individuals who face difficult and demanding circumstances. I have supervised professionals who work with people who either have suffered violence or trauma, or who have a severe mental disorder.

I have especially focused on professional supervision of leaders and managers of various private or public institutions. Such executive supervision is often not only useful for the leader but the organisation as a whole. As I consider organization from a complex systems perspective, I’m naturally very interested in the novel problems that occur in non-hierarchical and flat organizations.

Teacher & Trainer

I have taught psychology and related subjects for several years at various levels from vocational schools to post-graduate university-level courses. My aim in teaching is to foster and facilitate discussion and provide a space for reflection and new insights. I have a special interest in teaching the more unconventional topics, such as the role of psychology in climate change, how to design environments to aid citizens’ to forward their goals, or the ways psychology as a discipline has been used for ill.
